Obituary for
Joe Van Rooijen
Joe (Johan) Van Rooijen, formerly of Seaforth passed away peacefully at McNally House hospice in Grimsby on Saturday, August 16, 2014, with his family at his side. Joe was 66. Although he was born in Holland and immigrated to Canada in 1951, he always felt Seaforth was his home. He lived in many places with his career with the Toronto Dominion Bank but it was his memories of growing up near Roxboro that kept his heart here.
Joe is survived by his much loved son, Peter and Allison of St. Catharines. They will celebrate their marriage on Friday, August 22, 2014.
Also survived by Peter’s mother, Ruth (Gorwill) of Brockville, his brother John (Ann) of Ancaster, sisters Sharon Verhoef of Clinton and Janneke (Jim) Murray of Seaforth. He will be missed by his best friend Diane Brennan and his beloved retriever Casey. Predeceased by his parents, Hank and Joan Van Rooijen, a younger brother Gerald and his brother-in-law Arie Verhoef.
At Joe’s request there will be no visitation but an outdoor funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 19th, at Maitland Bank Cemetery, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Henry Huberts officiating. A reception will follow at the Murray Farm at 44175 Bridge Road. Funeral arrangements entrusted to McGlynn Family Funeral Home, Seaforth, 519-527-1390.
